Strong academics, not much else

Horrible advice.

was wondering this too. We have a counselor who is definitely not applying anywhere for my kid.

No it isn’t. My kid just started at summer internship because of the summer jobs he had. The interviewers asked him a lot of questions about these jobs. One of them told him that so many kids apply and none of them have any previous work experience. He said they rarely hire those kids.

Academics are relatively strong; if the trend holds, will end up 4.0/4.5 (U/W):
Hon/AP for all progressions of science, social science, math, English, foreign language (Chem, Euro, US, Lang, Lit, BC, MV)
High curiosity and enjoyment of learning, moderate to low ambition. Reads a lot of sci-fi, dystopian fiction, and philosophy, not interested in any activity to turn that into into a “spike”

No notable ECs — 2 different non-cut sports, chess club, summer job at non-profit.

Preference for schools within 3hr drive of DMV.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I guarantee you there is not a high stats UNHOOKED kid getting into GTown whose EC consists of a paid summer job folding clothes, working in a restaurant, etc. You're either lying, were told a lie, or are purposefully or inadvertently leaving a hook out of the story. This is true even for a valedictorian + a 1600 stats kid.

To quote the excellent, previous advice given: there is still “no reason to act like a performing monkey. visit a few schools within 3 hours and visit to see if he likes them.”
