Traditionally grown women got the ruffles and poofy sleeves. That kind of dress was seen as womanly. Girls got simple, A-line dresses and straight sleeves because they would outgrow their dresses.
This is all to say women should wear what they want |
I'm your height and built narrower, most especially through the shoulders. Puff sleeves look like they are eating my head. |

Sorry to offend you OP, but I LOVE that look and will wear it as long as I can.

I receive tons of compliments when I wear bright green. |
| I have no idea what we’re talking about because the is 1 picture and 2 links and the dresses look different |
I thought a tiered dress has tiers that overlap each other. |
I thought so also. I have a dress similar to the one in the link and I love it. |
I was excoriated for asking this here before. |
I love this color! What brand is this dress? |
I'm one of the puff/tier haters, but I love this dress. This is not a prairie look at all. |
PP here. It's JCrew (Factory though). Thanks all for the laughs. My teen daughters were incensed that some of you didn't like this dress. They really don't care much for my love of green, but they love this dress! They were ready to post and defend me. |
| If anyone is from the South, and I don't mean DC, but the true South, these floral, frilly dresses are lower income church-lady-on-Sunday coded. They would always wear prints. I've always associated it with a very cheap, dowdy look. I don't even like this look for younger women....just not my thing. |
Thank you for articulating exactly why I can't wear them either. I'm tall and proportional and they just don't work on me. They are everywhere! |
I like this one too PP! I don’t necessarily have anything against the style, but some of the dresses just have way, way too much fabric and swallow just about everyone who wears them. This one is more subtle. |
Why cheap? I'm thinking of the fashion on shows like Sweet Magnolias. It doesn't read low income to me (but I'm originally a New Englander). |
