If you go on vacation with your elderly parents, who pays?

It's a battle but this last time I insisted on paying and for once they relented

They have several million for retirement but with potentially 20-30 years to go it can go quick. Thankfully, we have the means to treat our parents.

20-30 more years to go!?! Several millions in the bank.

That’s not elderly. wtf.

Elderly is like 80+, maybe 7O+ of obese and a smoker.

They're in their early 70s with excellent health and parents themselves who made it to late 90s

Our HHI and net worth is a lot more in comparison and they help with childcare in the summers when school is off so we don't ask. Culturally, it is also "expected" especially if you are doing better financially than your parents.

Early 70s in good health is not “elderly.” I agree.

As for your cultural expectations, we have volatile income and lots of market risk plus 50+ years to go so balance that against early 70s two person household w whatever assets or net worth.

Oldest son’s family must always pay, for everyone. And remember to not say thank you. Because: expectations.
