Am I right to read this as a waitlist acceptance?

FYI, my DD got off the WL last year and the AO told her her financial aid package on the phone call and confirmed whether she would be interested. She said yes and then got an email the next day. So, it could just be that the AO was confirming full pay because your family did not apply for financial aid.

Am I right to read this as an acceptance off the waitlist? It is just phrased a little weirdly.

What if the email ends up in SPAM folder and kids don't see
You have a teachable moment on your hands then.

I think it almost did. Fortunately her guidance counselor sent it to us and resent it to her.

This admissions process has been so painful ...

Well done, OP! I would personally have waited until after COB and then kept myself up half the night wondering if I'd gotten things confused lol

Congrats to your daughter

Thanks!

PP is creating drama when there was none to begin with. Everything seems to be offensive to them — the AO probably just confirmed that they didn’t apply for aid so there would be no surprises. Not a big deal whatsoever.

100% an acceptance. They word it like that because they all care about yield, and they do not want to count it as an offer of acceptance unless the student indicates they definiteiy want to come. Ivy/T20 and more do it the same way.

And before you say "why did your kid apply to schools they didn't visit?" Well, it wasn't in the budget to fly to a dozen different cities, including many with 5% chance of admission.

It's 100% yield protection, OP. If she says yes, she'll get an offer. If she says no or doesn't respond, they will go to someone else. Heaven forbid another person actually turn down this school, although obviously, they are dealing with egg on their face because their projected yield didn't work out so well this year. So embarrassing for them.

Thanks. Fingers crossed. I didn't think this was a school that cared much about its yield, as opposed to Colby (where she is currently committed).

Congrats to your kid. Would you consider sharing the name of the school at a later time?

I absolutely will once things are settled, which hopefully will be tomorrow.

The PP you responded to. Nope, we filled FAFSA for the Georgetown RD application. The wording of the AO's email made it clear that a spot opened up if we agree to full pay. If we did not submit FAFSA then it would be fair for the AO to assume that we are full pay. But that was not the case.

Still sounds like BS.
