Would you buy a house next to this?

Hot place in hell for people like you ...

Anonymous cruelty designed specifically to interfere with someone's livelihood is a nasty thing. You send that around you might not like what comes around.

God, my life mission is to shutdown these absurd busybodies. Do something that actually matters with your life. Good god.

No. I’d think it was funny.

Even the yard food trash that's attracting rats???

I have a feeling op is exaggerating with that.

Her child goes to an expensive private school, and the business seems to be thriving. It does not seem that mental health is the cause. It is just a mystery. Our neighborhood has been gracious, for many years, and saw the humor when the skeletons were the only items on the lawn, but now they are in disrepair, and there are layers of other holiday decorations in addition to the trash. We will contact the city about rodents. Thx.

Of course it's mental illness. Successful people can have ADHD/autism and be hoarders and generally unable to keep a home. The mentally ill aren't automatically disabled people in group homes, OP. My very financially successful husband has a hoarding problem and would totally let the house and yard go to seed if I wasn't there.

No, not everyone with an ugly house and yard has mental illness. Generally they just don’t really notice their surroundings and have no sense of aesthetics. They’re the same people who wear pajamas in public, they are wrapped up in their own little world and the opinions of others never cross their minds.

You just described someone with high-functioning autism. I have close relatives like that. They have a diagnosis.

Not a day goes by on DCUM that someone doesn't feel the need to go diagnosing autism over the internet...

+1

Can you imagine having the time to "start an anonymous FB account" AND a NextDoor account just to harass this person with the goal of hurting her ability to make a living? Anonymously? What? There is something far more wrong about that kind of behavior than there is with leaving large holiday decor up year round.

Do you… know her? Have you ever spoken to her? Like, about something other than the skeletons. Maybe if you get to know her you could understand her better and maybe even get some leverage in cleaning it up for your sale.

Her dog was eating the food trash when I went by earlier. The two-year old oversized Easter decor is deflating. You may not be bothered, but others are. Curb appeal is central to her line of work, and a kindness we offer our neighbors. [/quot

Lol, get yourself some therapy or better meds.

OP here. Yikes, this thread really blew up over night. I think there are quite a few comments that are being attributed to me that are not me. I have no intention of hurting anyone's livelihood.

Regardless of your stance on this issue, ask yourself if you would buy the house next to this one, or if the state of the yard would be a red flag and potentially turn you off from our neighborhood.

If you can honestly say "yes, you'd buy it" please do. We'd like to pass on the title of "the house next to the skeletons" when we give directions. And, we are looking forward to a better daily view out our windows.

Time to slip some $$$s to the neighborhood teens to come by at 2am and take a baseball bat to the skeletons.

As others here I have said, I would buy the house next to the skeletons. Doesn't bother me.

It would take less time to set up an account and post than it took this lady to assemble 15 foot skeletons and other yard trash that she then left for over 6 years. The local government evidently had to cite her for not caring for her property, according to people upthread. This isn't some person who got sick and needs help mowing her lawn (when this happens in our neighborhood, people pitch in. And we shovel for those who can't as well. This lady is a totally different ball of wax).

This sounds like an eccentric antisocial person who doesn't care at all about her neighbors. She had to make great efforts to create her yard scape, but she can't pick up food trash???

If you read the thread, you would see OP has said her interactions with her have been normal, which makes the holiday decor issue so strange.

Just break the skeletons on the bottom so they fall apart.

The claims about food trash seem dubious (OP has heavily focused on the decor), but actually problematic if real. But whether you think she’s weird or rude is irrelevant. You’re allowed to leave out holiday decorations year round. You just are. There isn’t anything you can do about it.

I’m confused. Why is the amount of time it takes to assemble the skeletons relevant here? Sounds like she wants to keep them up because she likes them.
