| Quick answer : it is a good option. |
Who do you think is responsible for that? The teachers and staff, many of whom have left, are planning to leave, or have low-morale. |
Where are you going? to GDS? |
Why should I leave? I'm not the one accused repeatedly of wrong-doing. There's no reason a school community should tolerate this kind of leadership. |
As a prospective family, what advice do you have for us? Going to another school? |
I would never recommend going elsewhere because my child has loved the school, but she's in upper school and much of what we have loved was put in place by the previous administration. The program is great, but there's a lot of loss. And Penny does not have the skill, temperament, or experience to make up for it. |
So, do you recommend that we not consider the lower school? I hope this mess will be cleaned up soon. Holton has such a great reputation. |
Current LS parent and we don't consider it a mess. We've had DDs in lower school for a couple years, with the current and previous HOSes and the current and previous heads of Lower School. We also had parent-teacher conferences this week, and we liked how things are going with our DD. Oh and if you've been following the GDS thread about the "incident" there, wasn't that LS? The LS head at GDS was former LS head at Holton.. though if there was a mess-up at GDS, I'm guessing it was more likely at a higher level than that. She seemed quite competent when at Holton. |
From my conversations with other parents and what I've heard from students, the teachers at all the levels are good. The issue is at the top. A change needs to be made before the current HOS undermines the strengths of the school. |

That might be true, but that change cannot be made based on the opinions of a stalker that posts regularly at dcum. Not being likeable is not a criterion for dismissing a hos. |
Current parent here. I agree that posting on dcum won’t change anything. We have stopped giving money to Holton. When asked why, we tell them about our unhappiness about the impact of current administration on teachers’ morale and turnover. |
That’s ok, donations are voluntary. Also no one at school ever asked why I donate or not. And I don’t like to talk about my donations with others. It’s private information. |
I didn’t mean the parents. The staff raising the donations ask once you stop. |
| As a family that was at another school that had HOS problems, I’ve seen first hand how a new HOS can come in and tear a thriving community a part with a good reputation. It doesn’t matter how good the teachers and kids are, it starts at the top and we found out the hard way about so many things happening behind the scenes that no one knew about until it was too late. My advice is to ask questions and listen before making a decisions. |
