| Op just wanted to congratulate you in having such a great realistic list! Good job! |
Everyone on here is so pessimistic. This kid qualified for MOP. That is the top 50-60 math kids in the country, half of which are not rising seniors. I don't know if there is a better award to put on a STEM focused application. Unless there is a red flag somewhere, everything on OP list as reaches should be targets with the possible exception of MIT. Everything else on list should be a safety. Past MOP matriculations are heavily weighted to MIT & Harvard. |
Past MOP attendees have an over 60% acceptance rate to MIT. OP, you should feel comfortable adding more Ivy+ schools to the list. With good, thoughtful essays, your kid will end up somewhere excellent. |
| Would love to know who this JR parent is |
| Why is UMD a reach? Does op worry about yield protection? |

Northwestern is a good choice. The really like music. If he auditions for the music school and they like him, he can easily double major in another school.
Chicago is very very difficult in RD (you probably have to apply ED to have a real shot). I would add a few more reaches. You have some that are potentially attainable and a few that are virtually impossible (MIT, Chicago if rd), Maybe subdivide the reaches into two tiers. Rice is strong in music and less popular in this area (my dc who is into music was admitted this cycle). Penn or Columbia? Tufts? |
