Which is more important -- academics or social/emotional development?

I agree with this response to the previous post. She seems to speak from a position of authority and knowledge about the schools fullfilling this mission. Can she give us any examples? What schools? Where's the beef ... or is she waxing and waning for sake of pedantic argument.

Depends on the kid. If the kid needs help or excels at academics. Then academics is more important. If the kid has social issues, then developing those instincts are more important.
