+1. Which makes sense, because it's very conveniently located to the Takoma Park historic district. |
| Living in several states where is was the norm for HSs to have a pool, it’s strange that the high schools in this area don’t have pools. With water safety as a major concern, and swimming being a huge sport in the DC area, not to mention many elite colleges require you to pass a swim test to graduate, it just makes sense to have more pools available. Unfortunately schools have the money, it’s just used for other priorities. |
Colleges don’t require swim tests. |

MCPS is not paying for a pool. Poster misunderstood the presentation and MCPS did not word it correctly. |
I’m sorry, what? What elite colleges require you to pass a swim test? I have never heard of something so random! |
A swim test for college? I also grew up in a district where most high schools had pools- but, there were no county/town/community pools. There was YMCA and country clubs in the wealthier areas. Sure it would be great if the HSs had pools here but with all of MCPS' shortcomings it's a rather low priority wish, IMO. |
| In some ways renovating a pool may be more cost effective than eliminating one. |
I had to take a swim test at the University of Chicago back in the day but I have no idea if it’s still required |
Brandeis used to require it. But my knowledge is from a long time ago. Probably no colleges require it now. |
