You nailed it. Last round Lakewood and Stonemill parents were very loud so they were heard.

I am not Stonemill parents, but I know Stonemill parents are really loud. They ask friends and family that are not zoned to Stonemill to share links on social media and and fill out surveys and vote them to stay at wotton HS. I think loud babies get their wishes.

If their whole community is so against it and it is feasible to not touch them, why not? Why people want to hurt a community just because they’re so loud?
Do the least harm. Wootton is under capacity to start with and crown is built for other overcrowding schools.

You could say the same thing about Dufief. They have maybe 30 kids per class TOTAL and don't make any difference in overcrowding/utilization where ever they attend. So why harm? They have been at Wootton for 50 years.

Sure. I don’t believe Dufief should be moved out too so fight for it. But that doesn’t mean they should replace it with another community to move out.

The only thing I can think of is that Dufief is the most geographically close school to Crown in its entirety of all of the Wootton schools.

Stone Mill is closer. But again, neither school NEEDED to go to Crown. Wootton has the space.

Didn't say that they should. I think they leave Dufief alone AND the other Wootton feeders alone. Moving it out does nothing except allow them to say they actually did something to a Wootton feeder.

Additional options are a theoretical possibility, but nothing's been announced. The superintendent can recommend an existing option, or refine one, or create a new one.

Wootton is "forced" to alleviate some Churchill "overcapacity" issue, but the latter is largely delusional. Churchill catchment area barely has any new constructions, and once the new regional model kicks in and the immersion kids are moved out, they are under-capacity. But you know, MCPS always has their own ways to define utilization (e.g., the magically appeared 500 seats for Wheaton HS this round from Edison).

Dufief should have always gone to QO

This is not really accurate, most of the minority and FARMs population in Dufief comes from the special education programs where students are bused in from other areas.

I think the big takeaway from the meeting is that it sounds like an elementary school redistricting will likely happen that will send some of the apartment islands to Dufief at some point, due to the low capacity of the school and needing to reduce the number of feeders.

StoneMill is larger than almost all the other elementary schools. It should stay at Wootton.

My guess is the size.

StoneMill is larger than the other schools

In that case, MCPS should compensate by allocating additional resources to the newer programs with kids who aren’t “academically strong” in your estimation. They can circle back to region 4 once every other region has everything they need.

After all “strong academic kids” will thrive no matter what, right? They’re strong! They’re academic! They’re the right races to succeed!

/sarcasm

No, that's not true. They won't thrive if the curriculum is lackluster. That's why the very high performers went to magnets.

And they should not have been. They should have gone to QO same with the neighborhood off of Darnestown Road that goes to Wootton nope should have been QO. Muddy Branch should have been a dividing line for busing.

I'm upset there is no longer access to Poolesville Global Ecology. And Poolesville SMCS math classes if student was accepted into Blair.

Both Wootton and QO getting hurt with no more access to Poolesville.

Sorry - this is really too bad. Poolesville Global is the most unique program in the county, maybe country. There is no way that program can be replicated in 6 zones effectively...although I don't think that is even in the plan. Looks like they will just phase it out. Those teachers drive from really far away to teach there because the program is so unique, but if the program is watered down or eliminated, I imagine most of the current superstar teachers will find a teacing job closer to home.

My DC is in the Global plus the SMCS math track and it's been absolutely wonderful.

Totally irrelevant to this conversation. Crown is the Dufief high school in all four options now. No QO.

Sign up for testifying. Sharing your kids personal story. I believe so far the testimonies are mostly from SMCS, RMIB and humanity programs. There was one Einstein parent talking about the uniqueness of VAPA. No GE parents or students have been sharing their stories publicly so far.
