I stumbled upon this thread. We lived in North Arlington for nearly 30 years and sent five kids to WMS and YHS. We also were a pretty wealthy family relatively speaking (Biglaw). We moved into the city as empty nesters a few years ago.
I can't recall knowing anyone who was a member of the country clubs or country club membership being a "thing" at all. Ever. Maybe as another poster suggested it was a private school family thing. |
Everyone's experience is obviously different. But OP doesn't care about that stuff. |
That is hogwash. There are lots of great students at Kenmore. There are places that are zoned for Kenmore and Washington Liberty. You need Washington Liberty if you want IB, although you can apply to the IB program for high school from anywhere. The IB middle school is Jefferson. |
| Fairfax HS has an amazing theatre department and has the arts academy. |
Kenmore is the worst middle school in Arlington and it’s not a close race |
Kenmore, like TJ is zoned to all three high schools, depending on the neighborhood of course. Many parents appear to be okay with Kenmore, but there are families who choose to avoid it. |
At ASFS Army Navy was the “local pool” for the majority of my kids friends. |
| North Arlington family here who raised kids going through APS schools. I only know one family who is a member of WGCC. Many families have pool memberships at the pool clubs though - KoC, Overlee, etc. |
The facilities at Army Navy CC are beautiful. We've been there for neighbors' kids events. There has always been a public school contingent there. Same with Washington Golf. But membership obviously varies by neighborhood, grade, school, etc. |
| Member at WGCC, grew up as a member and went through APS. There were a handful of families I knew who went to school with me. Jamestown elementary is essentially CC hills districted only, many of those residents are members. Most kids at the club do go to private school, but I enjoyed my experience at public school and will send my kids there! |
