You really should look beyond or at least more carefully at US News rankings. W&M has traditionally been ranked much higher than VT until US News changed the criteria (removed student/teacher ratio, added first-gen numbers). I am not saying the criteria was better before or now, but it is different. If you want to compare something consistent: look at the test scores at the schools and look at incoming freshman GPAs. W&M is far above VT and, in fact, very close to UVA. |
You say that like it is a negative. For most people that is a plus. Only dweebs and losers would think that is a detriment. |
The only person I know who went to W&L undergrad is Rita Davis, who is black (she got a full ride) and was Northam's legal counsel and was the mastermind in getting the Lee statute removed in Richmond. So some things come full circle. She's super smart BTW. |
What makes it conservative? Be specific |
Test scores are meaningless at TO colleges. Try again |
DP. Lol. I was in a fraternity and would definitely not want my kids going to a Greek-dominated school. Has its place, but not front and center. |
Edmund "Kirby" Smith is buried on campus at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Not as smart as you thought you were, are you? Now run along. |
Do you have an alert on your phone that lets you know WM has been mentioned in a thread? You chime in with this same comment on cue every time. I know you’re pushing this narrative despite publicly available information about the credentials of the kids accepted to UVA and WM being almost identical and the change is USN criteria accounting for the ranking changes. You don’t need to try this hard to make VT happen. It’s already a really good school with bright, talented kids, but this just makes you look desperate. |
Is Kirby’s corpse in a university building? |
DP. You’re citing Sewanee as a defense of W&L? Think you missed the point |
Deal with it |
W&L used to be an all male school; became co-ed in 1985 (although the law school at W&L admitted women in the early 1970s). Based on some who attended when it was all-male, there was a significant closeted gay population. W&L has always had--and still has--a weird vibe. The Johnson Scholarship program tries to attract nicer students with generous scholarships. Need leadership potential, good grades, pass an interview, and have financial need if I recall correctly. Beautiful location. Largest Greek population in the country. |
I didn't see anything southern or conservative about it when I was there. What was it that you saw that made you think that? There were no Confederate flags or Trump flags or anything. Every kid my kid talked to was another kid from NoVA. The presentation we saw featured some girl from Great Falls who was doing charity work in Africa. Total DCUM type kid. |
I should have written: Highest percentage of students who go Greek of any school in the nation. |
