But New Hope might be too left-leaning/LGBT friendly for OP’s preferences.

Lexington Va. College town but the schools are tiny.

Only Lynchburg if you live in the Boonsboro area. Everywhere else is Liberty central.

Crozet is no longer small. It’s not the 90s when people would go there for Crozet Pizza. It new housing and wineries everywhere.

OP, if you are not a native of those small.towna, or at least a Virginia native, most residents will not be friendly if you buy a house there and stay.

Find a small town that retirees move to.

Public drunkenness, loud noise at night from house parties, lots of protests. I am looking for somewhere serene.

It’s very obvious that you’re looking to move to 1950 where there are no minorities and no liberals.

So am I.

Sounds amazing. I just out west on vacation in a small town that fits OPs requirements and it was soooooooo relaxing and delightful. People were nice, doors left unlocked. A-maz-ing.

Nowhere is perfect OP. You have explore yourself. VA is hard. To me, it's culturally too stuck up for the most part. There's scenic small towns, expensive ones, politically leaning ones and ones that are more rural in scope. But none I think that are scenic, relaxed, middle of the road and affordable all. Not a one.

its not just that- the whites these days do a lot of drugs, dress in sloppy athliesure, talk at the top of their lungs, have multiple partners and fatherless kids they can't afford and are very conversant with social service benefits. I am not white and I'd love to live in a community of any color if the families had 2 (just 2!) parents, people were not inebriated, were employed basically- miss piggle wiggles town would suit me right down to the ground!
