This. My brother got close to 1300 with zero prep. All of a sudden, good colleges were interested in him. He ended up at Penn State and he failed out. He rarely went to class and partied a lot. I just broke 1000 (I was very happy about that). I got a Bachelor’s and Master’s. |
literally peaking in HS. Pathetic. |
Me 1992: SAT 1310 "superscore". Went to an Ivy. Was a NM commended student but don't remember the PSAT score.
DC1 ACT 34, no SAT. Mediocre high school grades, did not apply to T30. DC2 SAT 1380, no ACT. Is a rising senior, has worse grades than DC1 and is applying to programs where he will submit a portfolio, so not planning to retake, because that score is relatively high for where he can realistically apply, and will count for less because of the portfolio. |
I can't imagine being this consumed. I have no idea what I scored, my husband, or either of my kids. (My kids graduated high school 2 and 7 years ago). |
It could happen to your kid, too! |
I'm a bit surprised that some folks on here do not remember their SAT scores. They were pretty important back in the day, and my buddy Rob who scored a 1450 on his SAT in 1988 was basically the genius of the entire school. |
Me 1230
Spouse 1350 ? This was in the 90s one sitting each DC 1450 - basically did not study then COVID hit so one and done. It’s not the same test. |
And many on here are a bit surprised that you and others who posted still remember. No actually make that a lot surprised. |
I am surprised that I don’t remember either! It was important at the time. Early 90s. It was 1280 or 1310?!?! Hmmmm. Who knows. Admitted in state to UVA but didn’t go because of an awful tour and the stupid The University stickers lol. Now my kid goes there because thankfully it’s a lot different. (Sorry, sidebar)

Kid got a 1520 |
I thought I got a 1400 but my mother reminded me it was a 1300. Oops. This was during a dinner conversation just a couple weeks ago after DC signed up for their first SAT and asked. |
And the tests are completely different- different type of questions, different scoring… a lot of posts like this today. Wonder if same person posting? |
People with good SATs often have excellent memory. That is how you retain a lot of somewhat useless info like how to calculate the volume of a cylinder. |
I remember taking the psat in the 7th grade and getting 1010 or 1050 and it was higher than what my good friend's brother scored as a junior in HS.
I also remember thinking in the early 90s I needed about a 1350 to feel very comfortable about Ivies (high grades at a very competitive suburban HS) and got 1400 - all math. |
Me - 1510, took Princeton review and studied a lot.
DH - 1600, used the big book of 10 practice tests. DD - 1530, did khan academy and practice tests. |
