If it’s a gift to the US government, what’s the logic in transferring it to the Trump library afterward? That makes no sense. The required transfer date (1/1/2029) is an admission that they all know it’s as corrupt as hell. Make sure to get it done before they lose the Presidency.

There's an article in the Post about this...apparently there's a loophole where there are no restrictions on donations to presidential library funds. Presidents can even solicit gifts while they are still in office. Crazy.

The temporary "gift" to the government is just a way for Trump to travel in extra luxury on his taxpayer-funded hops back and forth between Washington and his golf resorts.

Corruption issues notwithstanding,

- what will be used for a backup plane?
- won't it still take years to modify an existing plane to meet Secret Service and DoD specifications for presidential transport?
- what is the point of adding a single plane of a new type that does not currently exist in USAF inventory? how will issues like pilot certification and spare parts be handled?

Even if the plane is "free," none of this makes any sense.

No. The entire plane needs to be disassembled, all systems need to be EMP-hardened, the electrical system needs to be reworked to accommodate the needed communications equipment, manuals need to be written, test flights need to be made, etc. This is a military aircraft and not a commercial one; it would also be the first of its type to enter the fleet. None of this is simple.

It makes perfect sense. Calling it AF1 is just a mechanism to overtly launder a plane for Trump. The corruption is breathtaking, even for him.
