| The idea that other siblings entire childhood of vacations would be dictated by one teen is insane. You must know that, op. |
| My friend's mother made her practice piano on every vacation. Always managed to find a piano somewhere. My friend quit piano the day she started college. Her mother died unexpectedly a few years later. Sadly their relationship was not good, in no small part due to the mother's relentless pushiness. |
I do know that, which is why I am asking what other parents do, because I think what my kid is asking isn't realistic but I wanted to see what other families with serious musicians have done. |
|
Omg are you serious?
I have gone to school with concert musicians like Zuill Bailey and Sarah Chang who was my ex boyfriend's bestie. I went to the same music school growing up as Rachel Barton. I'm going to tell you about them. They practices nonstop because they love playing. But they also had lives. As long as you do not lose that desire and your goals and ambitions, you can in fact have a life. What will happen is that they will miss it more than anything
You have to have a life- it's the long game of having a career if that's the ambition, not just being a "serious" musician! |
^sorry miss practicing

You say “no honey, there’s not a piano at the dude ranch but it’s only a week” Also don’t give too much credence to the people acting like this is reasonable because 1) you kid is not likely to be a professional musician and 2) what would happen if they slipped on ice and sprained a wrist-all would be lost? No! They’d resume after recovery and would be fine! |
There are a lot of "insane" things in the world. This is not one of them. "Inappropriate" might be a better word. |
Some families take more frequent, and longer vacations than others. We don't know OP's situation. |
| Just think about the orphanage |
| Pick a vacation spot that everyone in the family might enjoy. Then look for pianos. |
