There just is no basis for nay of this nonsense.

Well, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have both said that MOST of the Federal workforce will be fired. I hope you're right that there is no basis for worry, but you're probably wrong.

And you think that will happen because?

There is no reason to think this even remotely will occur. Just talk and not even within Trump’s power.

People have already been fired.

Exactly. Return to the Gilded Age of about 100 years ago as best case scenario. Worst case scenario is Nazi Germany. Either way you’re gonna need money.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that what Elon musk and Donald Trump say rarely actually happens. But yeah, the government will be fully self driving by 2026. We’re going to be announcing the plan in two weeks, and I think people are going to be very happy.

I’m thankful we’ve been hoarding money for 20 years. My circa 2000 kitchen works just fine thank you.

Enduring a lengthy, costly, stressful renovation will have a huge negative effect on QOL. (DP.) Humans don’t actually need or desire these things. They are just brainwashed by marketers to think they do. If you sit around all day being annoyed at your old kitchen, you’ve been had.

It’s fine to want and have nice things that you worked hard for. Are you going to take your money with you when you go?

No, I just understand that a new kitchen (or anything new) only makes you happy briefly, then the situation and dopamine normalizes, and then you go looking for your next hit. It’s well understood.

So you don't own anything you actually like and appreciate? You can't think of one thing?

NP- Is this 1 mil a year person feeling defensive? If so, it's silly. The point is that huge (to people with normal salaries) purchases are rarely, if ever, a good idea financially. It doesn't mean you live in total austerity at all times and never treat yourself to something.

The oligarchs are shocked to find out that causing mass job/economic instability results in less consumer confidence.

If people stop spending won’t we head into a recession?

I think that we do need stop spending less, so inflation is under control. Fed then reduced interest rates, which fuels growth

Okay, but uncertainty is a reasonable response right now, right? You're not certain. Neither am I. That's the topic of the thread.

Amazing to watch the party that supposedly values science and reason descend into flat-earther levels of lunacy.

And?

People voted for this because of the economy—the economy Democrats insisted over and over was fine. Thanks!

My point is that significantly reducing the Federal Government (which is actually already pretty lean) is going to tank the economy. It's also going to mean we have fewer taxes collected because IRS agents were fired. A ton of them. So, it's going to hurt the economy in many different ways.

Just because people are hurting because our jobs suck now due to mainstream politicians both Republican and Democrat leading a race to the bottom for the majority of US workers, doesn't mean eliminating even more decent middle class jobs is a good idea. It's going to make the economy worse.
