Good point. It was very rare for all the children birthed to make it to adulthood. Of course you needed 8,9,10 to help around the farm, just in case 1, 2, or 3 died from some random preventable disease (by todays standards). |

when i was growing up, my family of 7 kids was small. Most of the people I knew had 8, 10, 12 kids. (Irish Catholic). Ours was small with "only 7 kids".
Now I agree that any more than two kids is a large family. |
