The team would have split up in time anyway. IME parents have these romantic dreams about their 10- and 12U squads staying intact all the way through HS but it never happens that way.

This. And honestly, it's often better that the girls get to play on different teams with different teammates.

Absolutely it is. But what happens is by second year 12U is teams start to solidify in terms of primary positions and parents and players of bench riders start agitating, thinking they’re better than they are. And so they go looking for different teams in search of more playing time.

As a parent of a 12U, this is helpful. It often seems like very few teams that start in 10U (or earlier) stick past that second season 12U. Teams that form a little later seem to have a better chance of staying largely intact, and I've often wondered why.

I'm sad for DD's 12U team, which will surely fall apart. It's such a nice group of girls, they win a lot and the parents are nice. Plus they're the only team geographically close to us (which matters for carpools, getting to practice in rush hour, etc). I really hope she/we can find a new team with such great chemistry.

Also if currently first year or 2nd year 12U.

PGF just changed so 9/1. I don’t think there are any fast pitch sanctions using birth year anymore. Smart to get on the same page on this.
