| Maybe Amherst is getting what it deserves: look at how many of those people are in crappy VAP or lecturer positions compared to tenure track. |
Truly, the Midwest could not possibly produce a brilliant scholar
|
What's that supposed to mean? Amherst is getting what it budgets for, which is not permanent positions. In which case you all REALLY need to give these people a break, no mid-career scholar with multiple books is going to move for a VAP. |
Amherst should have the budget for permanent faculty. Reduce the financial aid handout kids and provide a good education. |
Can you name one that isn't in Chicago? I'll wait. |
Amherst has none of the top phd feeder status as Williams. It isn't even in the top 5 lacs that produced PhDs in any field. It gets the clout from Williams. |
We did choose the best people. Postdoc from Stsnford and another from MIT. Multiple papers in the top journals in the field for each. Already bringing millions in funding. And want to teach too, though that is not our priority in hiring here at an R01. We hire the most excellent professors and have no idea what you are talking about. |
I am a coastal snob and even I know about the University of Michigan and Wash U, to name a few. Go home. |

lol this is hands down the dumbest thread I’ve ever read on DCUM and I’ve read a lot
-R1 full prof |
| Word on the street is that UCs have the worst faculty recently due to their h3ll hole state being impossible to recruit to. Amherst must be getting the remnants |
Do you genuinely think these people would've been tenure track even 5 years ago? |
I've even heard the kids are having to take engineering class time to build the schools a heat mitigation plan, because it is so unbearably hot. People dropping like flies. The state will be deserted in 3 months tops. |
| In a prof and this thread is chilling. Really? Naming minority profs and saying they’re not good enough? This is clearly a right wing troll with an agenda. I hope Jeff deleted the whole thing. |

Sickening. Thank you |
