More than twice the overall student population yet same small class size plus power 5 sports. My Deac claims they get a fair number of transfers from Davidson from kids who found Davidson too small.

LOL! No one transfers from Davidson to WF -- that is just fantasy. Davidson has D1 sports across the board and a much higher caliber of student.

It’s significantly easier to get into Davidson from the private schools my kids attend, just have to be in top half of the class if you ED, top third RD.

Davidson had a 12.5% admit rate this year. Last year it was 14.5% vs 21.5% at WF. That's not even close. Your stats are pipe dreams.

You don’t get it because you are a public school parent. Slacs love private schools. Once you get beyond the top 5 slacs, which doesn’t include Davidson, it’s pretty easy to get in the rest of the slacs from a top private. It’s not just Davidson, it’s all of them.

Very high stats kid from a VA private school rejected from Davidson for ED2. Was admitted to W&M and UVA RD. Did not apply to WF. This data is inaccurate for current admissions.

It isn’t. I have kids at two different single sex privates with reputations for rigorous academics. Our schools have three to five kids get into Davidson each year and very few rejections. This is for college grad years 2021-2024. Only one of was in top 20 percent of class over four years, and about admissions. If you look at the academic stats for Davidson admission as opposed to the acceptance rate, they are in the same range as national universities ranked T25 to T50, with a large percentage test optional (which is the case for most slacs and Wake Forest as well).

Yes, Davidson has D1 sports but they aren’t in a major conference and they aren’t good at anything except track and field.

The kids I know who are at Davidson have considerably more mixed feelings about it than the rah rah parents on DCUM. It’s ridiculously small and the athletes socialize only among themselves.

I'd imagine athletes don't tend to like liberal arts colleges; they are the odd ones on campus.

I know multiple kids at Davidson. One recently graduated and said he wished he transferred to some where with more social kids or was an athlete. The other is a recruited athlete and said the non athletes are quirky. So yes, I agree with you if you you have a quirky kid, Davidson might be perfect for them.

Huh... I once asked dcum for recommendations for a nice but nerdy STEM kid and dcum steered me away from Davidson because it had a jock/party vibe.

Never mind, I checked back and that description was for W&L, not Davidson.

I'm surprised by that description of W&L. It does not tend to attract quirky or even humanities-minded students, instead white southern students who like greek life and business school are the W&L vibe

To clarify, the summary I got when I asked for recs for a nerd studious stem type was this...
Davidson: nerdy, studious, quirky
W&L: greek, like to party

Does that seem right?

They have merit: they have full coat of attendance scholarships worth $360k+. Only 20 some kids get them, but they do exist. They have some partial merit for arts and debate scholars, in addition. 75% of the ones awarded say yes. The rest go to a super elite/ivy. Wake is an excellent school. Their grads compete well and they have great grad/professional matriculation. Wake costs the same as every other private in the T30 and provides a great education. They are working on more pell grant kids: all top schools fight for these.

https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?199847-Wake-Forest-University

Average cost $34,720
It is way more than other T30 and more than many T50 T60 privates, and it's in the middle of nowhere.
Salary outcome is also mediocre.

Hard pass unless rich White.

What about Asian?

I’m an alum and my daughter’s Asian best friend is transferring out of WFU after one year because she felt out of place (and she put in a ton of effort). The school has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years. Much more blonde and wealthy than when I attended.

I'm not sure that's true. The school has gotten less white over time and more economically diverse, but it started on a heavily blonde and wealthy foot. Maybe you didn't notice, because you fit in.

Sadly no. The Chi Os and Kappas were blonde and rich back then but the rest of us were more normal. The percentage of students receiving financial aid has also shrunk as the tuition has skyrocketed.

Any Jewish kids?

Yes, and the campus leans heavily anti the protests.

Not at all. How sad that you need to classify students this way. Get a life.

Wake used to compete heavily with Emory. Same with Tufts, times have really changed.

My student chose Wake over Emory, there is a huge difference socially. Also know kids who chose Tufts for location.

You must be very conservative, because I can't imagine any other type of family choosing Wake.

Nope, extremely liberal. Kid didn’t want to go to a school where fun goes to die. It is not as if she was turning down Harvard.

The crazy Emory booster has followed the crazy Davidson booster to this thread.
