What does U Chicago want?

how low can GPA be at big 3 and have a reasonable chance getting in ED? also - seems like there is a back door with EA if you can change it to ED2 later (presumably they reach out asking you to do so...).

Uchicag is all about $$$$$. It's a show-me-the-money university.

It’s funny you guys say this about $$.

Uchicago is only school that gave any of my 4 kids any money at all. They all went to t10 schools. We’re lucky to have the money but that merit from Chicago was nice

We found uChicago was super accurate about figuring out how much we could pay without actually going without groceries. They gave a LOT but not everything. The part we have to cover is significant!

Very similar experience.

UChicago admissions was pretty brutal for the class of 2028 in the DC area. Lots of private DC area schools who normally send 10+ kids only had a 3-4 admitted. Same with the highly regarded public schools. Our local public school usually has at least three students admitted and only one got in this year.

STA and Sidwell sent a bunch, but unless you are at Cum Laude level, there is no guarantee. Some students with lower GPA got in, but those tend to have hooks.

This. Admissions to UChicago have gotten much much more difficult.

My DC student works in the admissions office at Chicago and said that it seems they admit the people they like personality wise. So try and have your son show his personality in the package.

UChicago’s admission rate is 4.4% this year. I bet more Jewish students are going to choose UChicago over Columbia, etc., the coming year.

Same. The other T10 schools my kid was accepted at offered him $ that was at least $10K less. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for any $ offered but just want to point out that while some here are saying that UChicago is greedy with its money, it was actually a very opposite experience for us.

The $$$ impression of UChicago probably came from that it admits many students from private schools. Yet, the median family income there ($130k) is nowhere near WashU or Tufts($220-40k).

Chicago wants you to apply so they can pocket your fee and reject you to boost their stats.

Don't play that sucker's game!

Important to remember that "the Chicago personality" is a joyless grind...
