Super helpful- we’ll look into it. Did he take 30 credits in one year? Also wondering how APs factor in. Like do you have to take the general ed classes if you were going to use AP credit? |
never mind- found it: AP/IB credits can be used to satisfy the Fundamental English & Math courses required for MTAP, however, they will not count towards the overall 30 college credit hours required to complete MTAP or apply for transfer admission. The 30 college credits must be completed post high school graduation. Original AP/IB test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. |
OP here. Good luck! I hope it is a good experience. I really liked our tour there. FWIW In a previous job I worked with a number of people in finance who got their accounting degrees there and went on to be CEOs of large companies. Not sure my kid will be interested in that but I do think it is a respected degree for recruiting in the area. |

Same experience here at UMD. Kid spent about 15+ hours a week on math (class, meeting with TA, study sessions, homework) and managed an A-. |
Thanks, he will be a business major (concentration undecided) so that is nice to hear. I either hear from people who LOVED Towson and have stayed connected or HATED it because they thought it was a commuter school and were bored. |
Were you able to get merit aid? If so, what stats do you think you need? |
| Has anyone toured St. Mary’s? DD is a junior and is interested. She is a strong candidate for UMD but could participate in her sport at St Mary’s and I thinks he’d thrive at a small school. |
DS is a junior too. It was the first school we toured so we did not have a frame of reference. I think it would be a great environment to thrive as a big fish in a small pond. But my kid likes to be more anonymous and wants a large school. I thought he would be turned off by the remote location but he didn’t mind it at all- just didn’t like the size. |

DS said it was too small. "Nothing smaller than my high school, please" But I have heard fabulous things about it. |
