Are you in the DMV? What kind of job?

Retail at the mall. Customer since 12 (teens clothing store, like Forever 21) so they knew her. She was assistant manager in the summers and on longer holidays like Christmas. Regular staff on Sundays during school year.

She doesn’t have many friends and I think it would be beneficial for her to have fun at camp. However, she has been asking for a job for a while and thinks it would be interesting and look good on college applications. However, I buy her basically whatever she wants so she doesn’t need money. How can I convince her that this is a bad idea?

She's right. Why sleep away camp now? If she is not one to make a lot of friends quickly it will not be fun.

+1 my DD did 2 weeks of sleep away camp at 15 but it was her final year of a camp she'd gone to since she was 9. It would be unusual, and probably not fun, for a kid to join just for that year.

Let her get a job.

How long ago was this?

OP, do you work?

Weird. Most people would be overjoyed if their kid wanted to work.

It's a little late for sleep away camp OP. I would.let her get a job or volunteer if she doesn't end up getting one.

This !! My kid was going to go to a camp for one week at 15, but since she got a summer job cancelled that. It was a camp she had gone to since 4th grade (except 2020) so that’s the only reason why.

You should be proud of your daughter for wanting to get a job.

Parent the kid you have, not the one you want.

She doesn’t want to go to camp. My kid won’t either. They know what they want.

My 15 year old loves their overnight summer camp and plans on working there as a counselor when she is 18. Some camps are magical.

she's too young. She's not going to get hired. The type of jobs you mention are long.

Maybe she can work at a camp?
