How many steps do you average a day?

Wow! I aim for at least 5k a day. On days I run I hit this easily - run 4-6 then also try to walk 2-3 more miles. On the days I don’t run i do a lot of Pilates and also try to get to 5k but sometimes don’t. I feel so much better when I do get at least 5k.

I made a goal to hit 10k a day in January - most days I easily beat that. I work in an elementary school so walk a lot at work and also walk our dog. Sometimes I also walk laps around the house, which makes my kids laugh but I feel better on days when I get more walking in.

Op - I have a dog and young kids. Walk the dog 3-4 miles a day.

Do you have a full time job?

DP, you realize it takes less than an hour to walk 3-4 miles per day, right?

Yes, but 20k steps is 9 or 10 miles, that’s a lot of time

It really depends what else you do. I bike, and on the days I bike it goes to 12-16K which seems it’s mixing up with bike motion. On non-biking days it’s about 3K. Walking / running would need to be my exercise to be able to get 15K in. Not practical for me with a full time job and kids.

For me a 1 hour walk about be 6-8K (and 20 min stroll would probably get 1-2K max). It seems there is difference in how different gadgets and settings count steps. For me to do 12K I’d need to walk over 5 miles, which to do in 1 hour would definitely be faster than “stroll” pace.

You are likely taller than PP.

I have a fitbit and it both asked for my height as well as my stride length and other metrics to assist in determining calculation. I don’t believe my iPhone’s health app ever requested that type of info.
