wow, who would've thought that dumbing down the curriculum would cause students to not be achieving at grade level. So shocking. /s I swear.. MCPS administrators are dumb. They also probably can't achieve at grade level. |
Total disservice to our kids. And it hurts them when applying to colleges because they know MCPS has grade inflation. |
Great idea. Someone should do it while you and I drink wine. |
Maybe they can come up with a plan around lowering the standardized test score benchmarks. It could work. |
DCUM in a nutshell |
Well it was a good meeting for me. I am not an expert and this was illuminating. |
Also it is not the PTA’s job to hold MCPS’s feet to the fire. Even if they wanted to, they don’t have the power to do it. That is the BOE’s job. |
The PTA is an advocacy group. Of course they can advocate directly to MCPS. |
They do advocate. This workshop was part of that advocacy. Get parents aware of the issues with the curriculum and implementation problems, so they can engage and advocate for more rigor to MCPS. Nevertheless, the PTA is not the oversight body for MCPS. It is the BOE that should be conducting oversight and, as PP called on them PTA to o, “hold MCPS’s feet to the fire.” The BOE clearly is not, but that is not the PTA’s fault. |
As an advocate, who holds considerable weight and influence, yes I expect them to hold MCPS's feet to the fire. That means not letting them get away with coming to a meeting they're organizing and holding with no progress or solutions. |
Maybe you should get involved then. |
Who says I am not? |
This. It is all ads now |
+1. Advocacy requires collaboration and accountability on both sides. |
Next thing we need to accept is no amount of money will change these things. The old adage about leading a horse to water rings true. |
