Is it normal for someone in their early 30s to make less 80k a year?

I mean sure. My husband is in his late 30s and makes 53K working for a non-profit.

People work at non-profits, NGOs, in fellowships, as postdocs. I was a postdoc from age 27-30 making 50K ~6 years ago.

My 23 years old DS graduated from UMD college park in 2023 with a CS degree and he works for a nonprofit organization in Rockville MD for a salary of 105K and 25K annual bonus.

I'm a mental health counselor with 4 years of graduate school in my mid 30s making 75k/year. So... yes.

Legal aid attorney, and I make about that. I’m 41 but had about 8 years of part time in the mix when the kids were younger. Went to a good law school and got good grades but not very good at lawyering!

I'm in my mid-30s and make less than 80k. I work in community non-profits. I love what I do and feel that I'm making a difference.

Your DS has a Computer Science degree. I'm sure most of his company make a lot less. Great brag...

The point is that if you want to make more than 80K in your 30’, study something useful in college and not basket weaving degree.

Even a Fed GS-11 step one makes 82.7k. It only takes 18 months to go from GS-7 to GS-11.

Around 50% of the US adult population doesn't have a degree, most of those people are making under 80k and a good chunk of the degree holders are as well.

Depends. If its a cool job, you've no debt or kids and spouse has her own income, its a good enough salary.

I work for the PTO. With a BS degree, you start at GS-7 and get promoted to GS-9 six months after, to GS-11 after 1 year. With a MS degree, you start at GS-9 and get promoted to GS-11 one year after that. Therefore, one can make 82.7K at the age of 23 1/2 years old, assuming that you graduate college at the age of 22.
