does outside of school coding prowess matter?

Why do people post that have no understanding of a field of study?

By that measure, all STEM degrees or any field that teaches anything directly applicable to work should not be considered. Not to mention that CS degrees examine many areas that are theoretical and teach you how to think vs just teaching you Python syntax.

Seems like you think colleges should follow the 18th century model and just teach Socrates and Plato.

You clearly know nothing about CS.

Stop with the stupid “I think it’s a troll”…it’s a lazy response.

This is OP. If you mean I'm a troll (rather than the "CS degrees shouldn’t exits" poster), I'm not. I'm just your basic FCPS mom with a kid I had a question about. I included a lot of detail about his programming experience because if I just said "my kid's into coding and only coding, is that a big problem?" I would have gotten different and less informed answers than if I provided more context. I realize my post had a humble-brag feel to it but without all the detail, the responses would have just defaulted to he needs to get out more. Anyway, I appreciate all the posters who gave me the benefit of the doubt, and provided helpful responses.
