Academy Awards 2024

I was only slightly surprised bc awards shows don’t tend to award individuals who deserve to win. She deserved to win.

Awkward presentation by Pacino. Weren’t they supposed to read the contenders?

I also didn’t expect that. She was great in Poor Things.

I hated La La Land (nothing about her performance—just thought it was an empty and meaningless movie) and so I feel like this was the first deserved win for her!

The Trump tweet is INSANE!

Wow it ended early!

Al Pacino’s strange Best Picture announcement may have topped Elizabeth Taylor announcing Gladiator twenty-some years ago.

Was it a real tweet?

Oops, correction Elizabeth Taylor was at the Golden Globes, but same vibe.

I loved it. Great love story with great music. Moonlight was one of the worst movies I had seen in a long time.

He seemed drunk unfortunately. Oppenheimer, okay. Academy loves epic. Very happy about wins for Stone and and best supporting actress Randolph.

Can we just stipulate that everyone thanks the Academy and never say that again - how much time would that save?

Robert Downey was an arrogant prick onstage and a major dissapointment onstage

Didn’t even shake the hand of the presenter

I lost it when they started the In Memoriam with the clip of Navalny from last year's documentary. I didn't really see the rest because I was crying so hard - it's been a real source of heartbreak that such a truly admirable human being is gone from this world.

It might have left me sad all night, but thanks to Jimmy Kimmel for the end of the show with the dog from Anatomy of a Fall pissing on Matt Damon's walk of fame star - hilarity!

I feel like people who can't see the worth in Moonlight are either racist, homophobic or both.

It's considered one of the best films yet made in this century and I'm still angry that the cast and crew didn't get their moment in the sun because of the cockup with the envelopes at the Oscars that year.

It's a brilliant film, full of brilliant performances.

And yes, I'm going there - Oscars so white 2024. Again.

+1 million. I am a Catholic with relatively “traditional” views of sexuality - Moonlight was a masterpiece, an absolutely amazing showcase of humanity and empathy. Just breathtaking.
