It seems like they weren't? |

It's high time that we allow under-21 college students to enter bars/clubs and purchase alcohol on their own.
The only reason college men join frats is for a drinking and access to women. The only reason college women attend fraternity parties is for drinking and partying. Let adults enter bars/clubs like the adults that they are, and enjoy their youth without signing up for hazing and date rape. Not to forget binge drinking. |
| Greek life is sponsored by big milk. Until we address the real issues at hand we will continue to see hazing. |

I actually actree with you that 18 should be the drinking age. But, I don’t think it’s the solution you imagine it to be. I’m only enough to remember when the drinking age was 18, and frats were still all about booze and babes. See also, the movie Animal House. |
**agree with you…. |
I think beer and wine at 18, liquor at 21 |
Yeah, it’s still about getting access to the self-selecting group that parties, and somewhat about making connections with the “right” people. |
30 years I joined a sorority because I was OOS and I wanted to make friends. |
|
PP again. I don’t think my reason for wanting to join was uncommon but I felt the social pressure to drink once I joined.
I felt like I was in the cool kid club. |
+1. I think the whole greek system is purposely set up to make people think that they are elite, when they are not. My colleagues and I just don't have a high opinion of those involved with greek life, no matter how recent or not. |

To add, the offense must have been pretty bad, because the incident happened more than a few days ago, and nothing is being revealed. Some of the parents in favor of the greek system would be shocked and saddened by what goes on in those houses on a "regular" weekend night - not to mention, the offenses that are overlooked or swept under the rug, more often than not. Is that what we want to be teaching our kids? |
| If I told you stories about my time on Rugby Road in the early 90s, I can absolutely promise you would never send your kid to UVA. |
So is this crack down. The first amendment guarantees freedom of association. They cracked down on every fratenticty and sorority except the traditionally black ones. Hopefully the lawsuits start coming soon |
