What we need is the usual thing: more education about mental health, and an end to taboos surrounding it. If you're going to explicitly seek to punish people for having certain diagnoses - which, BTW, the patients cannot help having! - you're going to alienate all these people who will mask even more. It's the modern day equivalent of kicking scabby and leprosy patients out of medieval towns with bells to clang so no one goes near them. Take pedophilia, for instance. Something most of the world agrees is an unacceptable behavior. There is such a stigma that patients cannot tell their doctors. I recall a campaign in Germany a few years ago where they put billboards in a city and offered counseling to people dealing with such urges. What we need is more funding for research, so we can pharmaceutically and psychologically treat these people, and make the world safer for everyone. Prisons would be a lot less crowded if we had better ways of treating antisocial behaviors and mental health issues. It's humbling to think that humans are so technologically competent, yet in millennia of evolution, struggle with understanding the human brain and how to minimize tendencies to coercion and cruelty. |
| Fascists loved to use mental health issues to segregate and kill people. I see the ideology is alive and well with the OP. |
