What did they use this school year in place of GoGuardian?

Lightspeed replaced GoGuardian this year.

Is it same service?
Are all teachers using them in classroom?
Does it block students from playing games on Chromebooks after they are done with work assigned to them during class?

No, it has fewer features and less monitoring ability
No, it’s an individual choice just as GoGuardian was
Definitely not.

Lightspeed is straight-up garbage and nowhere as useful as GoGuardian.

Awful

Lightspeed works but is very glitchy. I never used Goguardian so cannot comment on whether that was better or worse

Bonus of light speed is you can turn off the internet for everyone.

Didn't they switch from Go Guardian to Lightspeed in order to save money?

I thought they said that only a small percentage of teachers were using Go Guardian. Of course I also wonder if that small percentage of teachers matched the teachers most likely to need to use a monitoring system.

I think it’s used most in middle school. That’s when I needed it the most. Still do. They just are so distracted. We can take away phones but then they have the Chromebook. We can’t win.

There was a thread recently to keep phones away during the school day. They should also add that lightspeed be used in when classwork is on chromebook.

Teachers also need better training on light speed. My students are constantly shocked when I take their chromebooks and switch their settings so it works again.

My MS kid spends an immense amount of time playing hacked games on his Chromebook and is usually left to do so after work is finished. I'd rather that the teachers required Chromebooks to be closed after assignments are submitted. Seems kind of simple to me in that regard, since this is a no-phones MS.

Lightspeed is so useless compared to GoGuardian. I've heard many students have already cheated the way to bypass Lightspeed. Of course, only a handfew of teachers I know barely even used GoGuardian in the first place, but I don't see how most teachers will even try to use Lightspeed. If anything, iBOSS is garbage yet the school manages to still use it.

I have recently started using Lightspeed in HS because now with ChatGPT, kids can easily look up answers to absolutely anything. I use Lightspeed for my Canvas Tests. Does anyone know if I can use Lightspeed if a kid comes in at lunch to take a quiz? Lightspeed access seems to correlate with class periods but I don’t know if I’m missing something

Yes, you should be able to see the students anytime they are in the building after you activate/start the period you have them. It isn't time sensitive, unless you have set it up to automatically start. I'm in middle, but hopefully it works the same as any level.
