Does anyone actually work 80 hours a week?

Yes, you are on the road four days a week and have nothing else to do. It’s a miserable life which is why people exit by 30.

To clarify, I work in IT consulting. I would maintain that schedule for 3-6 months per year based on project schedules and work 45-50hrs/wk the other months.

When I practiced law I worked 6 am to 8 pm 5 days a week, 6 am to 4 pm Saturdays.

In a startup company, pre-IPO, working 60 hours/week was normal and 80 hours/week was not odd.

Your math is wrong. You would have to do 10 hours on Saturday and Sunday to hit 80 hours.
