Is this the "functioning" House of Representatives?

I'm going to keep posting on this thread to highlight the Mike Johnson House. days until shutdown and they are voting on this. Not. Serious. People.

If it weren't going to be so impactful on our national economy, I wouldn't otherwise care too much, but what the GOP clownshow is right now is traitorous.

Just an unserious party there to undermine out republic. It is really disheartening.

There's a reason they pulled the FSGG bill - they added an abortion ban to it and some moderate Republicans rebelled and said No.

So with the GOP in the majority in the House, there is no difference whether or not there is a Speaker.

Johnson is a failure.

Do they not have the votes according to the Hastert Rule? Or do they not have the "right" votes?

Yeah it was probably fun for sh*t-eating grins a couple weeks ago, but now not nearly as much. Fury will rain down on him if he doesn't pass something, and fury will rain down on him if he does. House Speaker (the GOP version) is set up to be a no-win.

They don't have the votes at all:

"At issue is a provision to restrict federal funding from being used to enforce D.C.'s Reproductive Health Nondiscrimination Act, a 2014 law that prohibits employers from discriminating against employees who seek an abortion or contraception.
The legislation has long been a target for congressional Republicans, who tried to repeal it as early as 2015.
What they're saying: "The fact that the FSGG bill includes a repeal of the city of Washington, D.C.'s policy causes a lot of concerns," said Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-N.Y.), who represents a district that President Biden won in 2020.

Rep. John Duarte (R-Calif.), another Biden-district Republican, told Axios "there's probably a group of us that are going to vote against it if they leave it in there."
"We're just sick of every appropriations bill being a vehicle for some off the wall abortion policy," Duarte added.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) told reporters he also opposes the bill due to the abortion language.
By the numbers: A House Republican involved in the effort told Axios the group includes at least half a dozen members who "actually respect the role the different levels of government play."

Asked about the size of the group, Duarte said: "Unless [Republican leadership] have got some Democrats in their pocket, it's big enough."

Is the House GOP really this stupid? Why are they wasting time with these amendments that won’t even pass their own conference?

They have accomplished absolutely nothing. Not even the much-vaunted “we need to elect a speaker to help Israel”.

Mike Johnson is earning $223,500 plus benefits and allowances, plus a huge staff for this performance.

Why keep posting or why vote on salary? For the former (I'm PP) it's to keep the GOP unseriousness at the forefront. Too many posts here (which are mostly trolls) talking about stupid topics.

This the politics thread. The House GOP are there to so ONE JOB, pass a budget. That's it.

We need to shine a spotlight on their dysfunction Every. Single. Day. Put GOP in charge, this is what you get.

Under the GOP, it's clear the House Republicans are far more interested in performative bullshit and partisan witch hunts than they actually are about keeping the government running and functional.

It's a huge disgrace. I honestly can't understand how anyone in their right mind can vote Republican anymore.

At some point very soon, the Senate will pass a full on Budget. Biden will signal he will sign it, and the House/GOP will be fully to blame for any government shutdown. there is simply no excuse for this. they chose to be in disarray for a month, they chose not to negotiate, or do anything, and the whole country will suffer.
