Where in Dallas are you? |
I'm guessing PP knows little about Texas. Dallas has an African American mayor, and Houston is the largest city to have had an openly gay mayor. |
When Democrats realize that LGBTQ isn't a shared identity (plenty of gays and lesbians have deep doubts about transgender politics and gender ideologies) and sprout about red states making life hellish for blacks when that makes no sense and some of the most dangerous cities are in deep blue states and more violence against blacks (by other blacks as is typical) are in DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, etc, than any red state), then maybe more people in Texas or other red states might pay some attention to Democratic policies. |
+1. I may move back in a few years. |
I’m probably giving myself away as I know other people on DCUM, but whatever, I will reveal!! Coppell TX |
Coppell is not cheap- you aren’t buying in at $500k- and there is plenty of striver and high anxiety competition going on. I used to do alumni interviews there for my Ivy but stopped because it made me anxious by association. Coppell has *49* national merit semi finalists this year. 49! That is the opposite of the no striver, low anxiety, low competitive dreamscape this PP is selling. And yes, people are moving there from elsewhere, but they’re not the purple chill people you’re imagining. They’re more the kind of people who rank good value of housing + strong schools + nice house + low taxes over politics. There are ruthlessly focused on lowering their cost of living or maximizing the value of their salary or straight-up libertarians. |
There have been. It’s hard to track, since Zillow doesn’t show sold prices there and houses in that price range go fast, so you have to see the listing and take note when they sell. Look at recently sold houses, especially west of Preston Road (the “zestimates” are close). I’ve seen some very nice houses in the heart of University Park (same schools) sell recently for under $2m. Of course, if you want 5,000 square feet on Beverly, it will be $4m (and up). However, there are starting to be price drops, even there. I mean, this one is still $4m, but the price has dropped $250k after three months on the market. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3603-Harvard-Ave-Highland-Park-TX-75205/27201551_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare I saw this one in UP go by for under $2m: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3829-Amherst-Ave-Dallas-TX-75225/27209457_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare A few under $2 m HP samples: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4535-Arcady-Ave-Highland-Park-TX-75205/27201873_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4416-Edmondson-Ave-Highland-Park-TX-75205/27202450_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4623-S-Versailles-Ave-Highland-Park-TX-75209/27202878_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare $1.4m if you’re willing to live on Mockingbird Lane: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4409-Mockingbird-Ln-Highland-Park-TX-75205/27202619_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare |
I didn’t look at all of these but at least one was sold as a lot and another “as is” with no listing photos- AND west of Preston. In short, a neighborhood where you have to build an entire new house after spending $2M may be nice, but it’s not very accessible and not relevant to someone with a $500k budget! |
We are hardly dying. My ex husband left DC for Dallas. He stayed 18 months and moved to Chicago where he was from. He regretted moving. Most people I know from DC hate Dallas. There are many better places to go. |
|
This may be true, but the Texas legislature is constantly telling cities what they can do and taking away their rights. |
PP here - too funny! My law firm used to do their city government work. |
+1 |
| Neither appeals to me. I've been stuck in the DC metro because of my career, despite my absolute visceral hate for the area, but I'd never pick Dallas over it. The Texas landscape, climate, development patterns, etc. have no appeal to me, despite the state having a political environment that leans toward greater personal liberty, which I prefer. |
That may be true, but economically, black people do MUCH better in blue cities like DC. There is a reason that the wealth in PG is so high. My ex moved to Dallas from DC and moved right back. If you working class and just need a job, it's fine. If you are in the professional class, you just make more in blue cities. You have more opportunity. I have spoken to MANY black people in TX who say this. I know black people who worked for Exxon Mobil in Fairfax. When they closed that office and moved everyone to Houston, I know black spouses who NEVER found jobs. It's just a different mentality. |
