Ok did that age can’t find anything at all. Which group? (There are several). What date? |
Magnet is better and more selective, harder to get in to. |
I don’t think these high achieving kids should be separated a from the slower students.
|
The choice report is several iterations of the magnet programs ago, so I'm not sure we ought to tie ourselves to the nomenclature. |
The high school programs haven't changed at all so they can change the names all they want but it doesn't change the fact that the Kennedy application IB program is the same as RMIB or both Blair programs. FWIW have heard good things about Kennedy IB so I'm this is not a knock on that program but just that it's really different than the more selective ones. |
That does seem to be the stereotype. I guess it’s a program for nerds. |
+1 |
I have a child who goes to RMIB. The kids she hangs out with are funny, fun, and have very mainstream interests (football games, homecoming, birthday parties, etc). They are not at all arrogant, and while they are mostly in RMIB, not all of them are. My child works hard at school and is into sports but doesn't have any other ECs at school. It really depends upon the friends the kids make. I bet there are arrogant kids, socially awkward kids, etc in the general RM population too. |
Poolesville SMCS was the coolest experience. Really nice teachers, students and chilled parents. Very cooperative and welcoming group of students. Parents are not hyper-competitive like Blair and RMIB, so it is not a pressure cooker environment. Kids and parents are not super networked or legacy, and parents do not manipulate participation in ECs, scholastic, or other opportunities. That does reflect on admissions to Ivies but somehow that kind of college craze is also not there. |
Agreed. And there certainly are at Blair as well, because I know some of them! |
Blair SMCS parent here. I was surprised by how many kids come from just a couple of schools versus a more broad smattering across the county. I expected a lot of Tacoma middle school magnet kids, but there are a large group of Frost kids this year too yet very few that would have been zoned for the W schools or BCC. I assume they preferred their home schools. |
Wait. There are a lot of Frost kids, but not kids zoned for a W school? Frost feeds to Wootton, which is by definition a W school. |
How can you possibly claim to know everyone who is in the program at this point? |
+1000 Excellent school |
There's always a small subset of kids like yours PP but it's not the norm |
