I wonder which of the top club academies or even 2nd tier club academies in Europe, Africa and South America have a roster filled with tiny munchkins? Relative Age Effect is indeed an issue historically in team selections pre-puberty. However, you can't generalize. There are several 'small' exceptional players on the DC United U15's and U14's mixed with some exceptional (current and projected performance) early bloomers. Maybe you should lookup video of a recent U14's tournament in Europe to see top academies from England, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium with small, medium and large players. |
Some clubs are taking a perfectly good idea and turning it into Frankenstein. In Europe, Bio Banding places late bloomers together. They don't place 3 average size 2009's on their 2010 team to win. |
| Bio-banding makes a lot of sense and I wish more sports were using it. |
Does that mean the kids live in Howard County and close to Columbia MD where BA trains and have little commute? Are they 'on scholarship' at BA.... or are they spending north of $10,000 per year (tuition, travel etc expenses) "Worth it" is completely subjective, no? |
Hahahahahahaha Really? "Many kids drop out of school to be at DC United Academy"????? Did you type that with a straight face? Isn't it still cheaper for DC United parents to go to away games since they aren't paying $4,000+ in tuition alone? In addition, it's optional for a DCU parent to attend away games, since the professional academy takes care of all expenses and logistics for the players (travel, hotel, food etc) When a MLS Club Academy plays a MLS Next Affiliate team, one side is $0 and the other is about $216,000 in parents costs and expenses. |
I’m PP you’re responding to. This is exactly what their parents told me (their exact words), I have no skin in this game. The parents didn’t feel it was worth it. Take it up with them. And maybe cool your jets. |
Based on consistent poor results in all age groups in recent years, Achilles is apparently transitioning steadily away from a former high quality organization. Smoking mirrors. |
I have nothing to add, just wanted to say "smoking mirrors" was pretty great. |
