Someone got fired from Maret and is upset. |
What’s neo-marxist and brand shopping? |
Neo-Marxism is a Marxist school of thought originating from 20th-century approaches to amend or extend Marxism and Marxist theory, typically by incorporating elements from other intellectual traditions such as critical theory, psychoanalysis, or existentialism. Neo-Marxism comes under the broader framework of the New Left. In a sociological sense, neo-Marxism adds Max Weber's broader understanding of social inequality, such as status and power, to Marxist philosophy. Following World War I, some neo-Marxists dissented and later formed the Frankfurt School. The Frankfurt School never identified themselves as neo-Marxists. Toward the end of the 20th century, neo-Marxism and other Marxist theories became anathema in democratic and capitalistic Western cultures, where the term attained negative connotations during the Red Scare. For this reason, social theorists of the same ideology since that time have tended to disassociate themselves from the term neo-Marxism. Shop branding involves creating a unique identity for a retail store. This includes developing a name, logo, and overall look and feel that will make the store stand out from the competition. The goal is to attract customers and create loyalty. Both of these label are rarely used to describe one entity because one is a derivative of Marxism from around 1900-1950 in the US and the other is a derivative of capitalism used in business schools and marketing. |
8th is not an intake year. At most they take one. Try again but be honest this time |
NP. I think PP meant last year’s 8th graders entering for 9th this fall, which is an entry year. Adding that I was surprised at the kids going to Maret from our K-8 this fall. Not the top academic achievers at the school, but each seemed to be a good student and also an athlete of at least one sport. Small sample size, so it could be totally different next year. |
Try harder, Maret troll. You can do so much better. |
Ugh. Don’t worry. It will be fine for you and your child. Maret parents aren’t on here much and generally don’t like to sink down into the muck on this stuff. It’s one of the many things I love about the parents. You’re not going to find many on here unless they’re disgruntled for some reason. We’ve been at the school for many many years and my kids are very happy. |
I am the PP you called a troll. This is the first time I posted on this (or any) Maret thread, which is why I started my post with NP. Our children are at a K-8 that sends at least one child to Maret for 9th each year. I was sharing my observation from this year. Like I said, small sample size. Hardly trolling. |
I don’t know about Maret. But I know when I was at ncs there were no ap English classes and the line the English department used to say was, “At NCS, ALL of our English classes are equivalent to AP.” |
| Maret is weak and rudderless. Make a better choice for your child. |
Cool story, bro. |
Can you provide more detail? |
|
If you’re relying on this message board for a view of Maret, you’re probably not a good fit for the school. Really. Either ask other parents, do a little research or accept at face value the insane drivel with whatever grain of salt you do or don’t choose.
If your DC was accepted at Maret, they were on of about 13% of their peers. This leaves a large universe of parents with motive to spread insanity on this board. Just keep that in mind. |
ps. the 8th graders from the toolkit are plucked directly from Deal where every kid gets an A, and retakes tests until they do. It was not total surprise they got in but speaks to the quality of the classes there. |
| Amazing how anything negative about Maret swiftly gets deleted or locked … |
