This. Investors are scooping up all these properties and turning them into rentals. This was never about teachers or minorities buying houses.

+1.

It's amazing to see otherwise intelligent people completely fooled by this. Did anyone actually think MM would suddenly make plumbers able to buy a house in Lyon Village?

As a missing middle supporter who lives in Lyon Village, I assumed a plumbing contractor could probably afford a nicer house than mine and a plumber’s apprentice probably can’t afford to buy a house anywhere in Arlington

She can if she married a law firm associate. How do you think most women got into Lyon Village?

The ones who moved in when we did were, like us, two-income families with pretty average white-collar jobs, neither biglaw nor nonprofit.

I don’t know anyone at the associate level who can afford Lyon Village. Next.

As someone that lives in S. Arlington where SFH lots are repeatedly split into multiple TH lots. I am not sure why anyone thought that would result in housing for the "middle." In my area they tear down one 600K house and build three, one-million-dollar townhomes.

Politicians sell pipe dreams every single day, that’s how they secure votes.

Seriously. You need like $1.8m to get into Lyon Village. That’s partner money.

The old homes in Green Valley will be torn down and will become McMansions or townhouses. No one who is being honest thinks missing middle means low income housing. Middle refers to middle-sized housing, like the townhomes you mention.

That is not partner money. That is senior associate/counsel money. I bought a 1.8 million house pre partner in 2005. Don't need partner money for that.
