Petty Vents

My petty vent is people who don’t check their messages for days (I can see it hasn’t been read since it’s in a chatting app).
I know it’s nothing super urgent but also I am not asking a super complicated question either

I hate this, too. We like to save money for travel and retirement, plus feel like it's wasteful to always be buying new versions of perfectly good, functional things. So most of our clothes are 10 years old, we've never remodeled our (perfectly lovely!) home, and we really only replace things when they wear out. And people sometimes talk to us like we must be poor but, uh, we're just normal middle class people who live within our means. I'm not trying to brag about being frugal or environmentally conscious either -- I don't think we are, particularly. But I guess more than all our neighbors who buy a whole new wardrobe every year and a brand new car every other year.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t want anything to physically connect to my phone. I do have wireless headphones but I need to have one ear open at work, so I need earbuds. Askew headphones aren’t as good a look while I’m listening to podcasts while I do my job unfortunately.

I’m thinking about some AirPod pros. They seem to stay in DH’s ears and that man has some big ears. I think the new ones have a find my earbuds feature so maybe that’ll save me.

Can you just superglue the squishy part to the other part? That would annoy me, too.

I hate that I'm the only person in my household who actually cleans things. My DH will load the dishwasher and wipe down the counters sometimes, but I'm the only person in the house who actually cleans bathrooms, vacuums, dusts, or scrubs anything. And when I've mentioned getting a housecleaner in at least once a quarter my DH acts like it's such an extravagance and says "but our house is really clean!" Yes, because I keep it clean!

When I let people pull in front of me while driving and they don't give me the "thank you" wave. Is it SO hard to put your hand in the air and shake it to acknowledge that I just did you a favor??

Every day when it’s nice outside, people in the apartments across the street bring out a large low quality speaker and blast some combination of GoGo or rap with explicit lyrics that denigrate women. Half the time it ends by 10pm, but sometimes it goes much later. I can generally still hear it with my windows all closed and AC on. Cops don’t do anything. Their landlord doesn’t do anything. Unfortunately it was midday and peak hot when we toured our apt so they weren’t outside, otherwise we would’ve noped out of here. Even when it’s not late, it just makes me mad now. We are going to move. I hope it rains every evening until then.

a major vent of mine too. my husband thinks doing the dishes and wiping the counter that is nearest is "cleaning" the kitchen and somehow he's done. What about the rest of the kitchen and the rest of the house?? I mean I don't think he even knows what a baseboard is or has ever considered wiping down cabinets or door handles...ever. We could literally both be looking at the same room and he thinks it's fine and I see all the gunk and dust that needs to be detail cleaned.

When I merge I am white knuckling the wheel with both hands, and also just had shoulder surgery. I never wave but I do silently actively appreciate it.

My petty vent is people who use chatting apps. If you have something important and direct, text me directly. Chatting apps are not the place for messages that require a response.

My petty vent is that my DH's petty vent is becoming unbearable. He hates hearing people chew, so he has to have background noise during all of our meals--and it has to be loud enough to drown out any sound of chewing. If I want to enjoy croutons on my salad, I have to endure him giving me the death stare every time I bite a crouton and all of us have to shout over the dinner music if we want to talk to each other. It's just easier to avoid eating crunchy things at home.

my spouse always remarks when my fork touches my teeth, but hasn't yet resorted to background noise.

I know not everyone can wave for various reasons, and I try to remember that, but when most of the drivers act like entitled idiots AND they don't wave, it's more likely they just don't think to acknowledge it. I hope your shoulder recovers quickly!

THIS!!! My husband is fairly "tidy" and will do dishes and put things away, but doesn't see or notice any of what you are talking about.
