Sports for a small stature girl

Field hockey is a very fun sport that requires, as players advance, real athleticism, skill, game IQ. For those who don't know the sport, there's a misperception that short players have an advantage, or at least, don't have the disadvantage as in orther sports. Unfortunately, like most other sports, height only helps in field hockey. There is a lot of reaching for the ball, and being taller and bigger is just better. With that said, it doesn't pose as big a disadvantage for average height girls as other sports do, so if she has any interest, she should go for it. My 5' 4" DD will being playing for a D1 school beginning next fall, but she plays as if she doesn't know how short she is. That's the key.

Sorry to piggy back, but I have a 7th grader who will be perhaps 5' as an adult. She's going to BCC. What does Coxswain entail? Is it very physical? She's competitive and a quick-thinker, but not muscular, and she has exercise-induced asthma, so we're wondering what to do.

Thanks.

Being a coxswain is not the same as being an athlete.

Ninja warrior is another great option. There is an advantage to being tall and/or having a good wing span, but height is not always an advantage. My daughter does very well at competitions and is often the shortest one there. For ninja, body size tends to be the bigger discriminator in that if you have a larger body, you need more muscles to support it. Doesn't mean it's not doable (look at the guy who won last two seasons of ANW), but height is not a requirement in the way it is for other sports

PP you replied to. So would it be doable for her? She can't push herself too far.
