Bethesda is full of grifters, drug addicts, pan handlers, the homeless and people bused in from other areas to fill low income housing. We went to the McDonald's on the pike recently and I was shocked by the homeless people in front of the 7-11 and the drug addicts spitting over and over in front of the McD's door while waiting to ask for food of each person who went in or out. It was like stopping to pick up food on NY Ave before heading to the beach. Actually that's probably better now.

The McDonald's on the what? There's a McDonald's on Rockville Pike, but it's not in Bethesda, and there's also no 7-11. There are two McDonald's in Bethesda: one on River Road, which is not "the pike", and again, there's no 7-11 (it's next to Talbert's); the other in the Montgomery Mall food court (no "pike", no 7-11). There's a McDonald's on New Hampshire Avenue in White Oak, which is near (though not on) Columbia Pike, and there's a 7-11 across the road and down a ways.

Also, how do you "bus in" people to the housing that they live in?

Alrighty, alrighty. PP I think you found a troll.

Religion is a joke to be mocked and name called, anger and violence is glorified in some contexts, big one here - external locus of control over their lives, etc. Wake up people. Our society is becoming like a violent criminal training camp. This will only get worse until we teach better.

Actually it’s due to poverty & lack of treatment for mental health issues.

Poverty? For what reason can I walk around safely in many other countries where people are dirt poor compared to our poor, and not be concerned for my safety?

Because they have housing, food and healthcare.

Truth hurts, sorry I’d never …

Actually the kids were 16-17 so maybe they still are in 8th grade at MD.

The McD's on the pike is "north bethesda" -- near where Old Georgetown Rd hits the pike. There is a 7-11 right next to it. Like it or not, my post is accurate. Instead of nitpicking stupid irrelevant facts, how about addressing the issue -- drug addicts and homeless beggars are now standing sentinel outside the door of a suburban McDonalds hitting up everyone who walks in or out, and spitting on the sidewalk over and over when the door is closed, so we have to walk over their spit to get food. It's gross. Fact.

If that’s going on it’s only people the White Flint Metro stop is right there and there is an HOC property nearby. The two regular downtown Bethesda panhandlers live in HOC properties as well.

If they live in an HOC property (which one, specifically, is near the White Flint Metro station?), then by definition they are not homeless.

HOC owns and manages about 400 units at Grosvenor House.

No, I'm not talking about the Netherlands.

What? No. That's the total number of units in those places.

Does anyone have more information about what happened? I’m not necessarily disputing that it happened, but I recently attended a forum on public safety with county police and elected official and, while they acknowledge crime is up and talked about some of what they’re doing to address it, they also cautioned against believing every crime report on social media accounts because several turn out not be true.

+1. Nothing else came up for this.

That's just plain factually incorrect. Grosvenor Place (10101 Grosvenor Pl) is condos; HOC owns fewer than 10 of them. The Grand (5801 Nicholson Lane) is market-rate apartments - NOT owned by HOC - where the property owner gets a tax break for renting some units to tenants with low incomes. Strathmore Court (5440 Marinelli Drive) is market-rate apartments -NOT owned by HOC.

Both Montgomery Mall and Pike and Rose have been attracting kids from east county to hang out on weekends. Montgomery Mall basically has the only movie theatre left downcounty making it a big draw for kids from all over. I know people in Silver Spring whose kids spend a lot of time hanging out in Bethesda. So this doesn’t surprise me.

How do you know where the kids are from?
