12yo still takes baths, not showers

HA- we redid the bathroom and I got a free standing tub put in there, just for ME!! I take a bubble bath once a week and I love it. Read my kindle and let Calgon take me away!!!!!

WHy is this weird, there were commercials about it when I was a kid?

I do still shower everyday. Love a good bath though.

She's 12. Perhaps she is, um, enjoying her bath time in a special, intimate way. Leave her alone!

Read the thread before you drop in with your inane comments.

Agreed. I opened this to see the potential problem. There isn't one.

Op, leave her alone.

So what!? I’m 60 and I take a few baths a week. So much more relaxing than a shower. What’s the issue? I don’t see one. She’s bathing.

Why do you have to turn all pervy? So extra in a bad way.

Read the thread, people. The kid is not bathing. She's sitting in a bath once a week. She's not washing herself, unless you count the part where she sits in some shampoo that she loofah-ed (?) into her hair.

ONCE A WEEK. Without even a rinse off with a shower and without properly washing her hair so it is visibly greasy.

Is this also you?

OP. It keeps her hair smoother and shinier. She has greasy and frizzy hair that the conditioner before shampoo helps with.

I also forgot to mention that she washes her face twice a day with a cleanser and water. Thank you for your responses!

Did you actually answer the question as everyone is asking about whether she is also taking showers? Or is that once per week bath (plus washing her face every day) all that she’s doing?

OP again. That's all that she's doing. On long weekends she'll bathe twice a week, but that's it.

My curly hair girl washes here hair 2x a week since it is quite dry.

But she’ll take a couple shower body rinses in between since she plays two sports at this young age, sweats clean sweat (pre puberty, no BO yet).

However my older girl has straight hair- these are white children- and MUST shower or bathe every other day, use deodorant/antiperspirant, and brush her hair twice a day due to body odor over time and greasy hair on bangs and crown of head.

Use shampoo first, rinse very well, then a small amount of conditioner on bottom ends of hair only, rinse. Do not use conditioner first as well/ that makes zero sense and makes shampoo less useful.

As for baths, if you’re not taking one every other day, then do not put clean hair back into the water that has a mix of shampoo, grease, conditioner, bath bomb, etc. Thays a terrible idea for skin and making hair greasy faster. Or dryer as well.

Are you American OP? Is something cultural going on?

Is something going on where she and you can’t manager her time well enough to manage at least 3 showers or baths a week?

Did she cover hygiene in puberty or health class yet? Typical grade 4 or 5 for girls for sure.

Op, please come back and explain how you got into a situation where your child is bathing only once per week.

Sure, I will. Do none of you have tweens with busy lives? I understand now from everyone's responses that this isn't okay, but how do you squeeze in multiple baths/showers a week with everything else going on?

OMG. Your family can’t manage a 10 minute shower? You cannot possibly be busier than the rest of us with multiple kids and activities who still manage to have their kids bathe EVERYDAY!

OP I am trying not to come from a place of judgement here but this is really not ok.
At 12 she should have her bathing and toiletry/hygiene habits well established and it was YOUR job to be sure she was proficient in this.
My 7 year old boy has better hygiene habits than this! At this age a child should be able to competently handle all aspects of their hygiene and your daughter is not. That’s why her hair is greasy and the other parents gave you odd looks.
For the record, I have a bathtub loving older son (10) who took a 30 minute bath last night relaxing and reading a book. He was blissed out. Then showered off at the end to wash his hair and rinse off the bath. Every other day he takes a shower before bed. Baths are always allowed IF there is enough time (they’re usually shorter than last night but he had the time).

OP you just find the time for them to shower! Is it a first thing in the day shower? Is it a post school and activities evening shower? Whatever works for your family! Just make sure it happens.
We adults shower in the morning and the children shower before bed, it’s just upstairs, shower on, get in, wash, rinse, get out. You will figure out the right time and just encourage her to find the time that works for her daily and save that special bath time for once in awhile perhaps!
