GDS admissions

Gds parents are mostly driving on major roads - there are fewer ins and outs to the campus than used to go to the rat infested Safeway and car dealerships, and I’m not sure what the neighbors would like in the space - another vape shop or bank? Look 4 blocks north to friendship heights - tons of vacant space that nobody wants to build on.

Wow! If you are a GDS parent, you sound charming.
No wonder the neighborhood hates GDS. The GDS parents clearly look down on the neighborhood and its accompanying public schools.

Not a gds parent, but a neighbor in the zone one over. I just think this is an absurd thing to be irritated about. Who cares if GDS has 50 extra kids?! The issues with people speeding through the neighborhood will exist regardless of GDS and the issues of violence, badly behaving teens, and good retail replaced by banks and vape shops just seems like more important “issues” to deal with.

Sick of GDS families clogging up our streets. So much better before they added the new building. Just horrible group of people who don’t care about our neighborhood and that during the day. We just want to get in and out without honking at people to move their cars. Such entitled a-holes. Never should have moved into such a crowded area.

Bigger issues don’t negate the smaller issues.
They should all be dealt with. 50 kids may seem trivial to you but next time it could be an additional 50 kids. ANC is well versed in the fact if you don’t stick to the agreement, in a few years you will have bigger issues to contend with.

Big issues like the pandemic after-effects? Or is that not big enough…?…

The school got a break for a few years. When will they start living up to their agreement?

So over two years, GDS has collected an extra $5 million in tuition fees presumably with minimal increase in operating costs to cater to the extra students.

If it wanted to smooth over relations with the surrounding community, GDS could issue a mea culpa and EASILY commit a couple of million of this surplus to some sort of project that would help surrounding residents.

For a school renowned for its commitment to principles of social responsibility, I am not seeing a response that reflects these.

Yes, because the surrounding area is so deprived. 🙄

Way to prove you don’t run a business or school or any P&L responsibility today or through Covid.

What nonsense. Does the ANC whatever talk like the above too? I wouldn’t want bullies or loons representing me and we live there too.

You must have listening or processing issues, since last year was the first year back at full capacity ever at that location, and this year they are cutting intake numbers.

The ANC actually asked GDS to build deeply affordable housing with the surplus. GDS refused.

I live in the neighborhood and I don’t need any extortion to “smooth things over” for being over capacity due to Covid. That’s ridiculous.

Meanwhile my family in other states pushed for ALL schools to reopen quickly and they even volunteer substitute taught at public and private schools. That’s community.

They are overcapacity this school year due to COVID?

I just can’t get my arms around it either. Do the students there apply each and every year? Or did the spike in Covid acceptees sign up for 4-13 years of schooling there….

Didn't the school just send their families a letter telling parents they would have to accept fewer students this year because they were over their attendance limit? Do you know if they sent one last year?
