Wake Forest is always on those lists. Doesn’t look like Oxford, but it is a lovely campus. Salem students frequently take classes at Wake - I was in marching band and had several friends that were Salem students.

My 2nd cousins attended Salve Regina, in Newport RI, which I'd never heard of and assumed was a Catholic university with little going for it.

Then I went to Newport and saw that several former mansions ('cottages' as they called them) are Salve Regina buildings and the setting on the cliff is amazing.

I know it's not within the 4hr drive, and it doesn't look like Oxford, but it never gets mentioned in prettiest-campuses which I think is a pity. So for people looking at this thread who have never heard of it, I thought I'd put it out there.

Another vote for Yale, with the Divinity school campus as a bonus.
It’s neither realistic, given the traffic, nor safe, but it’s about 300 miles from DC, so, theoretically possible in 4-ish hours, although 6 is probably a better estimate.

The prettiest that come to mind are William and Mary, Princeton, and Richmond. Some notable architecture and more more similar to Oxford (Gothic) would be Yale, Princeton, Bryn Mawr, and Duke. Richmond is also Gothic but executed in red brick.

You'd probably come closer to 4 hours by train than by car going to Yale. Over 6 hours is likely by car.

I keep wishing this one were a slightly different school just BECAUSE of the setting. But the religious tilt and the fact that it does NOT have the second area of interest my daughter is looking for keeps it off our list.
