Three that I really enjoyed -

The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki

Woman on Fire by Lisa Barr

Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach

Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid - I love her depiction of female characters in a time and place that was hostile to them - it is hard to get that across in a way that doesn't feel like a hammer.

You might like Empress of Salt and Fortune (or maybe not— they are very different books, but it belongs on my list of favorite books I read in 2022, even if it is a novella)

A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting
by Sophie Irwin A whip-smart debut that follows the adventures of an entirely unconventional heroine who throws herself into the London Season to find a wealthy husband

In no particular order and six because I couldn't choose five:

Station Eleven - Emily St. John Mandel
Tender is the Flesh - Agustina Bazterrica
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek - Kim Michelle Richardson
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
Verity - Colleen Hoover
The School for Good Mothers - Jessamine Chan

The Candy House - Jennifer Egan. I resisted reading this because I so loved A Visit from the Goon Squad, but this book was gorgeous and gave me the same feelings as A Visit.

Sea of Tranquility - Emily St. Mandel just has “it” for me. I think and feel her books long after reading them.

Lost & Found (memoir) - Kathryn Schulz. A beautiful book about grief and love with exquisite writing.

Oh William! and Lucy By the Sea. - Elizabeth Strout. Cheating here because I finished Oh William late last year, but they go together. Elizabeth Strout could write a menu and I would read it.

Less is Lost - Andrew Sean Greer. Such a delight!

Just a note to say how great these recs have been. I’m reading “Book Lovers”, raced through “Cloud Cuckoo Land” on audiobook and now I’m listening to “Empire of Pain”. All three are great!!

^^ now I’m reading everyone else’s posts. I’m a late adapter. I’m not even sure I read 5 books published in 2022 last year.

Reminders of Him
Hook Line & Sinker
One Italian Summer

My fave of that group I guess was one Italian summer. Once a year my book club meets at a book related restaurant instead of someone’s house and we had a great meeting outside at an Italian restaurant to discuss that one.

Blackout: Remembering the Things I Drank to Forget. Totally absorbing memoir of a writer who faced her alcohol addiction.

Lies I Tell (Julie Clark): fun, fun thriller

Hello Molly! Molly Shannon: Good memoir

The Golden Couple, Greer Hendricks. Another fun thriller!

Also liked A Gracious Neighbor and Jennifer Grey's Out of the Corner memoir but I don't know if they are in my top.
