I think this thread is interesting (as well as the recent similar thread) because a lot of people have no idea that people process so differently. I didn't know until that other recent thread that some people can't hear their memories or recreate other voices in their heads. I had zero idea and I wonder what other things I don't know because I just don't know it's possible.
I think in pictures, sounds, and words - depending on the situation. If I think of grandma or my childhood home, I definitely think in pictures but also sounds and smells. If I'm trying to work through my grocery list, I think in words. I rarely talk to myself out loud. I talk to myself silently. Same thought process - one way is vocalized and the other way is not. |
Exactly! Not OP but this is a great description. Honestly, it makes me sad for some of the PPs who think there is only way to process info and seem so cut off from intuition |
| Can you hear a song in your head? When people say they have a song stuck in their head - do you get what that means? |
|
I was talking to my DS the other day and he mentioned that he sees music as colors. That he doesn’t think he hears it in terms of different notes. But rather he sees what he believes to be different notes sound the same but appear as different colors.
It makes sense to me now when I watch him dance. His movements have no connection to the music at all. Fast slow it doesn’t matter at all. |
Yes. And actually, the only internal voice per se I hear is exclusively music. For example, if my kid is driving me bonkers, I might suddenly hear in my head DMX singing the line "Yall gone make me lose my mind, up in here, up in here." It's mostly 90s rap and hip hop. |
I love this, my DH must think the same way judging from his skills |
Not OP but for me, this rarely, rarely happens. And when I hear music, it's usually just the melody or rhythm- not really the lyrics. |
Wow, that is unnecessary. I actually do "think" like some people are describing, more of an intuition, it just happens etc. But I ALSO have an internal monologue. Trust me, I'm smart enough. But go ahead and insult people. |
Not the poster you're responding to, but if you're the PP who accused people of only having "caveman grunts" in their head, don't you think you're the one who started the unnecessary rudeness? Perhaps a bit of self reflection is necessary. These are social dynamics, that, frankly should be obvious to any adult. |
Synesthesia. |
It's a freaking message board. I never ACCUSED so calm of down. I used grunts because I can't imagine not hearing words. And the absence of noise seems like no consciousness! Clearly people think very differently. |
Correct. So dont be offended by someone's rudeness if you started again. Two can play that game. Again- how old are you that you havent figured out a BASIC social rule? |
|
My H says he is like this.
I swear it's some weird control thing about not letting me know any of his inner world and I definitely believe he was deceitful during dating as he played the part fine then (though looking back I guess it never felt genuine. More of a "I saw this kind of thing in a movie once, let me try it on this unsuspecting woman"). I suspect my husband has a personality disorder and he is extremely difficult to be around. I'm counting down the days until I can divorce him. |
What basic social rile are you harping on about? I was being curious. If you misread and thought it was rude, that's on you. And being rude in response is not a social rule, it's poor manners. |
Being lectured on manners by a troglodyte who has no social skills whatsoever and can't even spell a sentence correctly.... lol. Gotta love the delusion of some DCUMers Why dont you take a social skills course?
