I HATE camping

Problem is you are camping with people who don’t know how to camp. None of this should be happening. And especially not bad food. Food cooked on a fire should be so much better than food cooked in an oven or on a stove. Of course that is only if someone bothers to learn how to camp.

+1.

Camping can be miserable or wonderful.

Enjoyment level depends on planning, skill, and equipment.

That said, I'm thrilled that most people don't like camping. I go to the woods to get away from people.

I do that in a soundproof spa!

Different strokes...

I won't take your spa appointment and you don't take my wilderness campsites. Win-win.

I agree. But you do get good funny camping stories afterwards. Like remember the time the skunk got into our tent and sprayed everything we brought? hahaha good times... true story.

haha remember that time the bear came in the middle of the night and dragged our cooler (all of our food) into the woods. hahhaha, yeah. Then it came back the next night looking for more food. hahahha. That was so fun.

You are sad, and certainly have not enjoyed some of the epic adventures that many of us will treasure for a lifetime.

I think camping can be magical (if it does not rain). I agree that it is a lot of preparation/stuff to lug/pack. But for kids in particular, it can be amazing to wake up to nature. Wash your face in a stream. Eat food cooked on wood that you gathered. Good for the soul.

(MUCH more memorable than spending time in a fake Disneyworld or chain resort with fake foliage and waterfalls.)

Well, if you did any research whatsoever, you would know that you don't keep any food (or scented toiletries) in your tent if you are camping in bear country.

+1 Yeah, if you go to Shenandoah or anywhere with bears nearby the very first thing they tell you is to secure your food securely in your car or other locked box the bear can't get into. Bear 101.

IDGAF about food when camping.
Unless we're camping for more than a week, the sensory overload leaves no room for missing "delish tacos".

Shhh, don't tell them that. Let those families fly and take their selfies with the characters and crowd each other in the (multi-)hour long lines for rides and hot dogs while we play in the woods!

Not securing your food away from your campsite is dangerous for you and the bear. Bears that become accustomed to human food and scour campsites for food are labeled nuisance bears. Nuisance bears are usually killed.

Can’t believe all the work my parents (educated professionals) did to take us camping. Had no sense of the work as a kid.
Feel too lazy to camp now, our own jobs have sapped our energy. But hell, my spouse’s camping food is amazing.

We don’t backpack anymore either (but our kids do with friends). It’s not a poor people hobby; it’s often part of the summer orientation at rich kid colleges.

There really is nothing to beat a night under the stars -no tent- when the weather is a perfect chill and there’s no light pollution. Or waking up to snow cover in the mountains of Norway (or chose your own place) but having the day be so warm and sunny you are down to as little clothing as possible and spectacular views in all directions.
