Car buying... is it getting better, worse, or about the same?

Car sales friends have told me the market is turning quite quickly. Hold out a little if you can. The worst is over.

I hope the worst is over as I want to buy a truck.

Are we talking hold out til the end of the year or til this time 2023? We only have one car right now, and the planning overhead to do simple errands is reaching a breaking point. But it's not so bad that we'd pay $5k over MSRP.

China is shutting down microchip factories again due to an ongoing heat wave. Things are a long way from normalizing.

Used car market is turning, but new car supply hasn’t changed much.

New car supply is up at some dealers. Went from zero new models on the lot to about 22 at a couple of Subaru dealers near us. Not sure whether or not they are charging a market adjustment fee.

I’m in PA and just went to look at a Volvo. They said they just got an influx of new 2023 XC 60’s and are selling them for 1,000 under MSRP.

Would you mind sharing the name of the dealership?

Bobby Rahal in the Pittsburgh suburbs. They have two. I was at the one in the South Hills but assume they have similar inventory in the North Hills or obviously would transfer the car there.

That would be nice. Friend on LI told me $4500 at local dealer. Only $1k across the sound in CT. The xtra tack on is ridiculous. I hope it bites them all, but probably won't.

+1

Brother works at an auto dealership on LI. Told me this weekend to wait another 4 weeks before looking at used cars for DD -- things are getting a lot better soon.

I was going to order a 2023 Toyota sequoia but they want 10k over msrp. I am not that desperate for a car and I hope these greedy dealers have their correction soon. I’ll pay msrp but 10k over is ridiculous.
