Traveling with kids/disclosing number of people in hotel room

In Paris, I twice got to see families denied their room due to non-disclosure of correct number of children. one Indian family, one Danish family.

I always shake my head when people can't deal with the fact that larger families cost more when traveling.

4 is not a “large family” and it makes no sense when hotels in Europe say you can’t sleep 4 in a room with 2 queen beds.
